Panem's history spans over two centuries. The timeline begins with the Dark Days — the failed first rebellion against the Capitol that led to the creation of the Hunger Games as punishment. The earliest Games were brutal and primitive, held in improvised arenas with minimal technology. As the Capitol's power grew, the Games became increasingly elaborate, eventually developing the high-tech death arenas and televised spectacle seen in Katniss's era. By the 74th Hunger Games, Panem had perfected the art of turning child murder into entertainment. The 75th Games — the Third Quarter Quell — became the spark that ignited the Second Rebellion, leading to the Capitol's fall and the end of the Hunger Games forever.
Important note: Exact years for most Hunger Games edition numbers are based on canon sources (books, films) and fan consensus. Some early victors' exact Games numbers are estimated based on contextual clues from the novels.
